Contractors for Free Enterprise Endorse Reelection of Bruce Rauner as Governor

ADDISON, IL., Sep. 18 - Contractors for Free Enterprise, the political action affiliate of The Associated Builders & Contractors, Illinois Chapter, an organization of over 350 companies engaged in the commercial and industrial construction markets in Illinois, has announced its endorsement of the reelection of Bruce Rauner for Governor. The endorsement was announced today at SWD, Inc. in Addison, Illinois. Governor Rauner accepted the endorsements on location. “I'm proud to receive the endorsement of the Associated Builders and Contractors. I am committed to creating a healthy economy that will allow their members the opportunity to grow their business with new projects, and it is an honor to have the support of ABC in our mission."

“ABC endorsed Bruce Rauner for Governor in the fall of 2013,” said ABC, Illinois President Alicia Martin. “We did so because we firmly believed Governor Bruce Rauner would make a positive impact on the economic well-being of ABC members and the construction industry,” Martin explained. “Given the accomplishments of Governor Rauner over the past almost four years, we were right to endorse him then and we are right to endorse him for another four-year term.”

Data from the Illinois Department of Employment Security indicates that the number of construction related jobs has increased by over 50,000 from May of 2014 to May of 2018… a percentage increase of 13%. Today, over 460,000 Illinoisans are employed in a construction related job. Also, attached are the important accomplishments of Governor Rauner and his administration for the merit shop construction contractors.

“In the next few years Illinois alone has the need for over 139,000 craft professionals and my company has personally felt this need,” stated Calvin Williams, Founder and CEO of Construction Contracting Services, Inc., and 2019 Chair-Elect for ABC – Illinois Chapter. “Governor Rauner and his administration understands the demand for a skilled workforce and has allowed us to establish a talent pipeline for the construction industry while at the same time giving at-risk youth, unemployed adults and individuals re-entering their communities’ opportunities for training and employment in and industry with high pay and good benefits.” added Williams.

April Fowlkes who began her career in construction through training provided by ABC under a grant from the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunities supports the endorsement and described how the training and opportunities provided to her have changed her life.

“Prior to the training I received, I was unemployed and lacked the skills to have a job with good pay and benefits. Through a program created by the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity under the Rauner Administration, I was connected to ABC’s training program. In 2016, I received my NCCER credentials and at the completion of my training was hired by Manhattan Mechanical Services during a career fair held for the training graduates. With Manhattan’s support, I have continued my training for pipefitting and boiler-making. If not for these programs, I am not sure what turn my life may have taken. I thank Governor Rauner for his leadership in making apprenticeship training a top priority and providing individuals like myself the opportunity to succeed.”

The endorsement will bring ABC Illinois member activity and financial support to the Rauner Campaign.
