Battaglia Industries
Specialty Contractor > Electrical: Commercial > Electrical: Commercial
Over many years, Battaglia Industries Inc. has cultivated a close and effective working relationship with Joseph Nicholas Construction. JNC specializes in constructing, remodeling, and expanding automobile dealerships in the Chicago metropolitan market. JNC knows that it can rely on Battaglia Industries to deliver on time and under budget while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.
Battaglia Industries, as one of JNC’s preferred subcontractors, was invited to bid on the Genesis of Schaumburg project. The method of delivery was plan and spec. By leveraging its relationship with local vendors, Battaglia Industries was able to provide a competitive bid to the customer. We are particularly proud of our teamwork with local lighting vendors and manufacturers’ representatives to find cost-effective solutions to lighting and energy management controls.
The Genesis of Schaumburg job was an extensive remodel of the existing dealership. During the planning and estimating phase, Battaglia’s team of estimators and its project engineer were able to lean in to their expertise to identify portions of the existing electrical system that could be reused.
For example, instead of replacing the existing site lighting with new poles and heads, Battaglia Industries proposed using retrofit lighting heads that could be installed on the existing light poles. At the same time, Battaglia’s team identified pole lights that could not be reused due to excessive deterioration. This was caught early in the process, which facilitated their replacement with a minimum of stress and delay. This occurred because Battaglia takes a proactive approach to construction by seeking to identify problems and issues early in the construction process.
Since the Covid-19 pandemic, gear has been a major issue affecting electrical contractors nationwide. Lead times are often unimaginably long and border on absurdity. It has not been unheard of for contractors to be told that lead times for gear are two years out.
Nevertheless, Battaglia was able to tap into its relationship with its vendors to ensure that gear for the project was delivered on time and at an affordable price.
The Genesis of Schaumburg project also allowed Battaglia Industries to shine in its commitment to facilitating the use of clean energy. The project contains multiple EV chargers, including both level 2 and level 3 units, which were installed and commissioned by Battaglia’s employees.
Battaglia also delivered the goods for the entire lighting package. Hundreds of different fixture types were specified. Battaglia successfully managed the entire submittal process, ensured timely delivery of the lighting package, installed the fixtures with care and finesse, and left the customer extremely happy with their beautiful showroom and service area.
On this project, we had the privilege of working with many of our partners at ABC, from The Edge Construction to Two JS Industries. It was great working together with familiar teammates.
In closing, this project was exciting to work on. It was interesting taking existing infrastructure and upgrading it to today’s standards. It truly involved all of our teammates working together and expanding on our current processes to make it a success. The project hit the agreed upon deadline and came in well under-budget in part due to the up-front design, value engineering, prefab, and our ABC member partners.
